California Launches Huge New Rebates for Solar and Battery Storage
California is making solar energy more affordable to low and moderate-income households with a new rebate program! The Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP) Residential Solar and Storage Equity (RSSE) Program will cover 60-80% of the cost to install a new solar panel system and 100% of the cost to install solar battery backup for qualifying homeowners and renters. That equates to roughly $30,000 to $80,000 in savings on a home upgrade that will significantly reduce or eliminate your electricity bill and improve the value of your house!
Taylor Energy has a long history of bringing solar power to those who will benefit from it the most with our philanthropic efforts. We’re thrilled to see California making solar energy more accessible and would love to help you take advantage of this opportunity to add affordable solar and storage to your home.

What Is the New SGIP Rebate Program?
The SGIP RSSE Program will provide significant rebates to low and moderate-income households that install solar panels and battery storage. The funding is available for solar plus storage systems and storage-only systems. Solar-only systems do not qualify—you have to install a battery to receive funding. If you already have a residential solar panel system, you can still qualify for funding if you install a new solar battery.
The program is funded by the state and designed to make solar energy affordable for more of California’s residents. It’s not available yet, but the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) expects to open the program in mid to late September 2024. The funding will go fast and is expected to be depleted within 2-4 months of the program launch. If you’re interested, reach out to Taylor Energy today! We can prepare your application in advance so it’s ready to go as soon as the program opens.
What are the SGIP Rebates for 2024?
SGIP Battery Rebate - There is a $1.10 per kWh incentive for solar batteries, which can cover up to 100% of the cost of a standard solar battery installation.
SGIP Solar Rebate - There is a $3.10 per kW rebate for solar panels, which will cover 60-80% of the cost of a standard residential solar installation. To receive the solar rebate, you must also install a battery.
It’s possible that PG&E will set a cap on the incentives each participant can receive to ensure as many applicants as possible are able to take advantage of the rebates. But the caps they’re considering are very reasonable. There may be a 10 kW cap on solar installations, which is enough to cover 100% of most people’s annual electricity usage, and a 30 kWh cap on batteries, which is enough to install two FranklinWH or Tesla Powerwall batteries.
Are You Eligible for the SGIP Rebates?
To be eligible for the SGIP PG&E solar and storage rebates, you must:
Have a PG&E account in your name
Install the system at your primary residence
Meet income requirements (less than or equal to 80% of Median Family Income in Sonoma County)
Customers who are participating in PG&E’s CARE, FERA or the Energy Savings Assistance (ESA) program, and have been on that program for six months or longer, will most likely qualify for this SGIP program.
