What Is the PG&E Permanent Battery Rebate Program?
The PG&E permanent battery rebates help homeowners install battery backup systems to prepare for wildfires and blackouts. If you qualify, you can claim a $7,500 rebate, which will cover most of your battery installation costs.
Battery Rebates Help You Prepare for Outages
Solar batteries give you backup power during a grid outage. With a battery, you can keep your lights on, charge your phone, and run essential appliances like your refrigerator so your food doesn’t all go bad.
It’s best to pair a battery with home solar panels so it can recharge during an outage. But you can also install a standalone battery and claim the PG&E rebate. Standalone batteries charge from the electric grid. The downside of a standalone battery is that, during an outage, it can’t recharge, so once your battery is empty, your power will go out.
Who Can Claim Rebates?
If you’re a residential electric customer of PG&E and you’ve experienced at least five Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings outages since January 1, 2023, you may be eligible for the $7,500 battery rebate. Check your eligibility by entering your address into PG&E’s Wildfire Safety Progress Map!
You also have to comply with the program’s terms and conditions, which include that you:
Install a qualifying battery
Receive Permission to Operate from PG&E
Enroll in a Time-of-Use and Demand Response plan if you’re not already
If you’re eligible for the rebate, we can help you comply with the terms and conditions. We’ll recommend a battery that qualifies for the program and makes sense for your home. We’ll also submit your interconnection application for you so you can receive Permission to Operate.
